Online Divorce Services

On Behalf of | Dec 21, 2017 | Divorce

It may be tempting to use an online divorce service, especially if you and your spouse already are in agreement about the terms of your divorce. Why hire an attorney when you can do it yourself from your home? These services may end up costing you in the long run, however. Here are some of the risks you may face when using an online divorce service.

The Risk of Online Divorces

  • Improper Filing: Divorce isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, even if your divorce is uncontested. When using an online service, there is a very real possibility that your divorce papers may be filed incorrectly. These services cannot account for the unique complexities of your situation and ensure that your needs are appropriately and legally met.
  • Questionable Personal Data Handling: Divorce proceedings require a significant amount of private information, including your name, address, financial information, and other personal information. If the site is not as trustworthy as it appears to be, you could be at risk of fraud or identity theft.
  • Your soon-to-be ex-spouse may hire an attorney: If you’re taking a shortcut, your spouse may see it as an opportunity to get the upper hand. Your spouse may opt to hire a divorce lawyer, who will have a great deal of experience in filing your divorce correctly and fighting for their client’s needs.
