This week, we are pleased to introduce you to one of our incredible paralegals, Melinda Bargas. Melinda has been a paralegal for the last 13 years, and she has dedicated her practice to family law for much of her career. Melinda is a client-favorite, and she is key to ensuring that each of our GEM Family Law attorneys, clerks, and interns is providing top-notch service to each and every one of our clients.
Q: How long have you been a paralegal?
A: I received my Associate of in Applied Science in Paralegal Studies degree in 2006. I began working as a paralegal that same year. As of May 2019, I have been a paralegal for 13 years!
Q: Have you ever worked in any other areas of the law?
A: I briefly worked at a Personal Injury firm and a Traffic/Criminal firm. However, my heart has always been in Family Law.
Q: What drew you to family law?
A: I was drawn to family law, because I wanted a career that enables me to make a difference in people’s lives and helping people through difficult situations. Working in family law gives me the opportunity to work one-on-one with clients and make sure that they have ready access to the legal help that they need.
Q: What do you enjoy most about family law?
A: What I most enjoy about family law is helping clients navigate their case from start to finish. I understand the process can be stressful, and hope that I can make it even the slightest bit easier. I also like that each case is unique. After all these years, I am still learning.
Q: What do you think makes you stand out among other family law professionals?
A: I think I stand out among other family law paralegals, because to me, this isn’t “just a job”. I understand that what we do directly affects clients’ lives. Each case matters to me, and I truly want the best for all of our clients.
Q: Are you originally from Colorado? If so, what do you love most about it? If not, what brought you to Colorado and what do you love most about it?
A: I am a Colorado native and love our beautiful state! Even after living here my whole life, there are places left to explore and to experience. I also love that we truly get to experience all four seasons, and the unique weather that each one brings.
Q: When you are not working at GEM Family Law, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: When I am not working at GEM Family Law, I enjoy a variety of activities. One of my passions is baking. I love creating unique desserts for my kids’ birthday parties. I also enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and exploring Colorado!
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: One thing most people don’t know about me is that I am a single mom to two wonderful children. I think this helps me understand what some of our clients are going through.
